"The good feeling of security". August Bremicker and his sons had hardly expected that this slogan would one day go around the world when they ventured into self-employment in the small village of Volmarstein an der Ruhr in 1924 and began producing the first padlocks. The Bremickers were not the only ones producing padlocks in Volmarstein at the time. And yet the straight ABUS brand has become synonymous with padlocks worldwide. The brand name ABUS is well chosen: it stands for August Bremicker und Söhne, is easy to remember and easy to pronounce.

Until the 1950s, padlocks made of steel or sheet metal dominated the market. Then the unstoppable triumph of the solid brass lock body began, which ABUS was the first German supplier to place on the market. The family business from Volmarstein an der Ruhr was quickly able to conquer one of the first places in the international market and literally occupy a permanent key role in the security lock sector. This also resulted in the ABUS name in the USA. "World leader of brass padlocks".

But other models have also established themselves. The round ABUS-DISKUS lock is legendary, having been produced for over 60 years and constantly updated to the latest state of the art. All developments are based on the guiding principle of optimally meeting the security needs of consumers. For example, the 80s and 90s were characterized by a series marketed under the name "Granit". "Granit" is used wherever the highest security requirements are placed on padlocks.

Tireless activity, inventiveness, skill and expertise in development, production and sales have been the cornerstones of the success of the family business, which is run according to Christian principles and is now owned by the third and fourth generations. The great success and expertise of the ABUS brand is not only based on the padlocks product range.
