The Brändi Foundation was founded in 1968 on the initiative of the Insieme Parents' Association, the Rast Foundation and the Canton of Lucerne. This was a conscious decision to hand over the tasks of caring for the disabled to institutions organized under private law. The Brändi Foundation is represented by 16 companies at nine locations in Horw, Kriens, Lucerne, Littau, Willisau, Sursee, Hochdorf and Baldegg. On behalf of the canton and disability insurance, it offers work, training and residential places for people with disabilities.
The foundation mainly employs people with mental or physical disabilities and psychological impairments. With around 1,800 employees, the Brändi Foundation is one of the largest employers in the canton of Lucerne. A total of over 600 specialists work in the field of support, guidance and care. The Brändi Foundation offers apprenticeships in 14 sectors, with a total of 1,085 jobs available in 10 AWB companies. The foundation also works with six housing companies, which is why seven different forms of housing with leisure facilities are available to meet the individual needs of residents (335 places in total).
