We've all been there: the tent is up, you pull on the light pull cord and the knot comes undone in your hand. It was just such a mishap that triggered the following thought: there must be better ways to fasten a cord with tension. That was in 1963, and the problem was soon followed by the solution. Two parts made of acrylic, with angled ribs. Glued together, they formed Clamcleat's first cleat - grip proportional to load and with no moving parts. This simple, unique device was the first major innovation in rope clamps for over 40 years. Today, countless tent enthusiasts have this innovation to thank for the fact that they can tension their ropes easily and without any problems. Extensive development work on numerous prototypes and comprehensive material tests were carried out before the company produced the first nylon cleat in 1964.
Clamcleats Limited was founded in 1965 and the first patents were registered. The Clamcleat brand was also registered at this time. The first Clamcleat rope clamp was for sailing and was made of technical plastic. The requirements in racing were high. And so the company continued to tinker and introduced the aluminum cleat in 1972. The Clamcleat Racing range was born. Many designs are now available in both materials - the range now comprises 125 models. Clamcleat rope clamps are available for activities such as camping, tents, sailing, kayaking and windsurfing. Sevarg photo and ID cutters were purchased in 2009. And in 2012, the company opened a new plant in Costa Rica. The family business is now run by the third generation.
