Endura Ltd was founded in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1992 by ambitious club cyclist Jim McFarlane. McFarlane took a 14-month trip to Australia. While living in Australia, Jim joined a cycling group that competed in triathlon team events. At one of these events, his equipment was stolen and he was forced to look for new equipment. Jim didn't like what was on offer. As before, he bought things that he used, but Jim was not enthusiastic. So, on his return to Scotland, he decided to try producing his own cycling clothing. These were to be designed to meet Jim's demands for technical functions and durability without compromising on materials and construction. And this is still the basic idea on which all Endura is based today.
Initially they worked with quality textile mills in central Scotland who supplied cycling clothing. However, it quickly became clear that these textile mills lacked the expertise and equipment to produce high performance cycling clothing and so Endura began manufacturing its own clothing in 1993. Since then, Endura has become the largest brand of cycling clothing in the UK.
Endura's first offering was its MT500 range of shorts, tights and jerseys. These were introduced to the market at a time when mountain biking was becoming a fast growing sport. The range was an instant success and almost overnight established the brand as the first choice in cycling clothing for the new generation of mountain bikers in the UK.
The company currently manufactures both with partner companies and in its own 3900 square meter production facility in Livingston, Scotland. Its features tennisbag here include a modern print shop equipped with a high-speed digital sublimation printing machine. Endura's specialized production lines include ultrasonic welding and cutting, gluing, pressing, tension-free fabrics, laser cutting, CAD design patterns, automatic layering and almost all types of sewing machines. In addition, Endura has its own branch in Shanghai, from where the Far East quality control department operates.
The company philosophy remains true to its original concept of high-performance, durable cycling clothing and uses only the best materials available. Endura invests in development, innovation (the company holds full patents and has pending patent applications) and design. All sales and marketing staff, all directors and our product development team are cyclists who are passionate about bikes and want to produce the best possible products for them. In addition to product input from the in-house team, Endura works closely with a number of riders. These include world and British champions as well as club racers and commuters to develop and refine Endura's functional clothing.
In its history, the company has won numerous product awards in magazines and various industry awards, including the Eurobike Design Award for clothing.
