The source of the Ethnotek brand originated somewhere in the northern mountains of Vietnam in 2007. There, in a small Hmong village, the artistic and colorful fabrics impressed Jake Orak, an American backpacker at the time. His idea of combining these great fabrics and their cultural origins with the latest technology and presenting them to the public quickly took shape. He decided to bring together the high-quality, handmade fabrics from Vietnam - and later also India, Indonesia, Ghana and Guatemala - with advanced Western backpack technology. The result is a unique combination, a rapidly growing success story.
Orak succeeds in preserving and promoting local handicrafts, creating jobs in the most remote places and taking advantage of globalization and worldwide trade. Ethnotek offers local artists the opportunity to transport their craft and art to the networked world as independent ambassadors.
