Robert Workman founded TIFIE Humanitarian (Teaching Individuals and Families Independence through Enterprise) in the spring of 2007 after visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo and seeing first-hand how important it was to help people out of poverty. His idea was as follows: He wanted to teach people how to build a sustainable business and in doing so, lift themselves out of poverty. In spring 2008, the first portable solar power pack was tested in Congo.
Originally called GoBe (now Goal Zero Yeti 150), it consisted of a battery, a solar panel and an LED light. This simple innovation brought light, safety and economic power to the villagers. Another year later, in the summer of 2009, the effective Goal Zero brand was founded. The mission: to provide people with energy by giving everyone a reliable source of this energy, based on the mantra "Zero Apathy, Zero Boundaries and Zero Regrets". After the earthquakes in Haiti in 2010 and Japan in 2011, Goal Zero donated hundreds of pieces of lighting equipment, giving people strength and light. Finally, in July 2013, the "Share the Sun" project was launched, a humanitarian aid program through online sales that allowed Goal Zero customers to participate in aid projects of their choice.
