Wayne Gregory was very young when he designed his first backpack. It was a model for scouts. At a scout meeting, he met Andy Drollinger, the founder of San Diego California Adventure 16, the oldest outdoor store in San Diego. Andy took Wayne under his wing. From 1973, Wayne worked for a number of outdoor companies as a freelance designer. He was fascinated by this world and turned his love into a profession. In 1977, he founded Wayne Gregory Mountain Products in San Diego, California. Wayne didn't just want to design new backpacks. He wanted to know what he could do better from the consumer's point of view. And he turned many of his customers' ideas into reality. Eventually, he realized that the perfect fit was the supreme discipline. So he was the first to build backpacks in different frame, harness and hip belt sizes. To this day, he is the only manufacturer to build a hip system that adapts to different hip angles. This automatically improves load transfer.
