Meindl relies on a centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship in shoe production, as Meindl has been a shoemaker for more than 300 years. Even though modern production facilities are used today, every machine is operated by a person who carries out one of the more than 200 steps required to produce a high-quality trekking boot. The company has not given up quality craftsmanship in favor of the opportunity of the mass market. With ingenuity, flexibility and market orientation, Meindl produces shoes of shoemaker quality and is thus able to hold its own in the face of global competition. The history of this traditional shoe manufacturer dates back to the 15th century, when Petrus Meindl was first mentioned in a document as the first shoemaker in Kirchanschöring, Bavaria. Today, traditional craftsmanship meets modern materials, which Meinl has integrated into its range with innovative ideas and for which it has already received numerous prizes and awards. In August 2001, the Air Revolution model was voted Product of the Year and received the European Outdoor Award. According to the trade press, Meindl has succeeded in "taking the climatic comfort of Gore-Tex® shoes to a new dimension". By laminating the Gore-Tex® membrane directly onto the boot shaft, optimal moisture transport is ensured. Numerous practical tests have shown that the boots are extremely comfortable to wear. The Air concept reduces the weight of the boots by a good 30 percent and increases breathability by roughly the same amount. This progress is the result of the overall design. Today, MEINDL is one of the few shoe factories with proper production facilities in Germany and produces over 1 million shoes, which are delivered to the world's most important outdoor markets. In the Alps, in the deserts of Africa and Asia, in the South American jungle or in the Australian outback, alpinists, adventurers and people who move a lot on foot swear by the reliability of Meindl shoes.
