About mont-bell

Montbell focuses on quality, durability and functions without compromise. The definition of what is functional can be very wide. It depends of course on use, user-specific requirements and conditions. Montbell tries to develop a well balanced and wide range of products that can be used in extreme conditions and deliver what they promise. Montbell Co Ltd was founded in 1975 by the young Japanese Isamu Tatsuno. At the young age of 21, Isamu set off on a great journey. Together with his friend, he reached Alpiglen in Grindelwald by train and boat and then waited a long 40 days for the best weather. In the meantime, Isamu made friends with his host family, the Nebikers. By the summer of 1969, his fascination with the Eiger and the glacier village had already begun. Isamu was the youngest Japanese to climb the Eiger via the north face and has called it mont-bell ever since. In December 2005, the same Isamu Tatsuno opened his first European store in Grindelwald. His outdoor collection, which he has been selling successfully in Asia and North America for thirty years, was given its first flagship store in Europe in Grindelwald. The employment of Margrit Mühlemann-Nebiker as a saleswoman in the new Montbell store, who was six years old at the time in Alpiglen, is particularly likeable and shortened the time for the two young Japanese by repeatedly inviting them to play memory games. This completed a wonderful cycle of encounters and experiences. Today, the company operates over 60 stores in Japan, one in the USA, one in Nepal and, of course, its big dream Montbell (Suisse) in Grindelwald.
