The tradition of knives from Mora is long. Knives from Sweden have been sold worldwide for over 400 years. The history of Morakniv goes back to the year 1891. Frost-Erik Erson returned to his home village of Östnor in Mora and founded the company after living in North America for four years. Initially, he only made knives that were used in the company itself. But production soon increased. By the end of the 1900s, the brand was already well known and knives from Mora found their way to merchants all over the country. Mora could already look back on a long tradition of knife manufacturing. In 1912, Krång-Johan Eriksson, also known as KJ, opened his own knife factory in Östnor. He had previously worked at Frosts, but had not got on particularly well with his superiors and was therefore fired. His real plan was to emigrate to the USA. But first he wanted to try making knives himself. Together with a partner, he founded his own knife factory, which would become part of Morakniv a hundred years later. Incidentally, he never emigrated. There were several takeovers and structural changes until 2005, when the final merger of KJ Eriksson and Frosts took place and the name was changed to Mora of Sweden. Today, Mora is still growing and 65% of its knives are exported to more than 55 countries around the world.
