Nikwax has a long and passionate history. It all began in 1977 in a small apartment in the cosmopolitan city of London. The then 22-year-old founder Nick Brown developed the first Nikwax product: a wax that impregnates and protects leather boots, but does not make them soft. Nick himself grew up going on long trekking tours with his father, had a great passion for the sport and set a new standard in waterproof clothing and hiking equipment with his waterproofing wax. At the beginning of the great success story, Nick Brown traveled through Europe himself and personally delivered his products to customers. Eventually, he bought a workshop in London, which enabled him to ship his wax to eight countries in a very short time. From then on, Nick had plenty of time and energy to develop new products, inspired by his passion and the ever-increasing awareness of the environment and a sustainable lifestyle. In 1983, after some research, he made a unique discovery: he found a way to produce water-based waterproofing products without the use of toxic and environmentally harmful ingredients. Shortly afterwards, several products appeared under the name Nikwax WaterBased Range. His special waterproofing agent can be used to easily and reliably treat a wide variety of items such as ropes, hiking equipment and tents.
