Pavel Hendrych, a Czech climber and car designer, founded the Ocun brand in the late 1980s and realised his passion for innovative climbing equipment. Ocun was originally known as Rock Pillars and made climbing harnesses from old Czech Air Force parachutes. This DIY philosophy, combined with Hendrych's innovative spirit, laid the foundation for the brand's growth. Soon after, the first official climbing harnesses from Rock Pillars came onto the market, attracting the attention of the climbing community.
In 1992, Rock Pillars launched its first climbing shoes and established itself as a full outfitter for climbers. The quality and design of their products helped Rock Pillars to become a well-known brand in the climbing world. However, it was not until 1994 that the company presented its first collection at the outdoor trade fair in Friedrichshafen. It quickly recognised the need for innovative climbing equipment and founded the Ocun brand in 1998, which soon proved to be a leader in climbing equipment. An important step was the foundation in 1998 to diversify the range and focus on other areas of climbing equipment, including bouldering mats and hard goods such as carabiners and slings.
The introduction of the bouldering mats/crash pads in 1998 was a significant moment for Ocun. This additional offering helped the brand to become a leading supplier of bouldering equipment. To this day, the company supplies a wide range of shoes for different types of climbing and levels of difficulty. Since 2014, Ocun climbing shoes have also borne the name of bouldering shoes and climbing finches for every wall gradient and level of difficulty. Ocun climbing shoes are characterised by the company's long experience in climbing shoe design. From soft training shoes for bouldering to high performance climbing shoes, Ocun provides shoes for different needs and preferences. The company plans to continue developing its climbing shoes, working closely with developers and climbers. Another important development was the launch of its own climbing clothing line, which was specially developed for climbing activities and is designed to be functional and practical, with a particular focus on freedom of movement and comfort.
The company continuously invests in research and development of new equipment and has developed innovative solutions through partnerships such as Ocun's Climbing Lab. These have helped keep the brand at the forefront of the climbing industry. Ocun has built a strong presence in the climbing community by sponsoring events and supporting velcro climbers around the world. Today, the brand is synonymous with quality and reliability and is valued by climbers of all experience levels.
