The Seattle-based company Outdoor Research has been synonymous with authentic mountain sports clothing since 1980. Functions and durability are the focus of this brand, which was inspired by the experience of numerous outdoor athletes. Outdoor Research offers technically innovative clothing, headwear, gloves, gaiters, drysacks, compression sacks, stuffsacks and bivy systems. The Outdoor Research product range provides the weather protection, insulation and versatility needed for exploring the low backcountry, high peaks and steep cliffs. Outdoor Research is committed to supporting outstanding organizations in the areas of environment protection, backcountry exploration and education.
The success story begins with founder and mountain sports enthusiast Ron Gregg, who saw his friend and climbing partner get frostbite due to bad gaiters and barely survived the situation. He then worked on a solution to avoid such cases in the future - the result was the X-Gaiter, which fits snugly over a wide variety of shoes.
Tragically, Gregg died in an avalanche accident while testing his products and Dan Nordstrom took over the management of the company in 2003. Today, after 31 years since the company was founded, Outdoor Research remains on course and continues to develop its products. Dan Nordstrom exemplifies this spirit and is enthusiastic about the mountains and nature. He combines passion and responsibility for the environment with business know-how - in the spirit of the company founder. Nordstrom initially worked for the family business Nordstrom in various positions.
In the 1990s, he founded the e-commerce company Nordstrom.com. Nordstrom knows what a brand needs and is convinced that "Outdoor Research makes the best products for challenging adventures". New, innovative products are introduced every season. The collection is characterized by intelligent materials and features such as GORE-TEX® PRO™. Outdoor Research aims to create an unmistakable aesthetic. The brand is now expanding not only in America but also in Japan and Europe. Outdoor Research assumes social responsibility and supports non-profit organizations as well as mountain sports organizations and pays attention to fair working conditions and environment protection.
