Pretty crazy. But the guys at SRAM did it. Because their idea of converting shifting into turning movements was only logical for them. Although nobody would have thought of it until the early 80s. However. They believed in this crazy idea and opened a factory in Taiwan without outside funding. They ventured into components with a plastic derailleur: that's SRAM.
