Thermos

Thermos L.L.C. is the world's leading manufacturer of insulated food and drink containers and other consumer products. The company was founded in 1904 by two German glassblowers, but Thermos containers were invented much earlier by Sir James Dewar, a scientist at Oxford University. The name Thermos was inspired by the Greek word 'therme', which means heat.

 

In 1989, the company was taken over by Nippon Sanso K.K. in Tokyo, which had produced the first stainless steel vacuum flask in 1978. The original company in Germany was also acquired by the Japanese.
