About Woolpower

Woolpower AB was founded in 1969 in Östersund, Sweden, to produce nylon tights. In the early 1970s, the company developed the Ullfrotté Original material in collaboration with the Swedish army. The first Ullfrotté garment was produced in 1972. Today, Woolpower AB focuses entirely on the production of thermal underwear, socks and warm outerwear. The company employs around 50 people and all production - from yarn to finished product - takes place in Östersund, surrounded by the magnificent Swedish fells.

The Swedes use only the finest merino wool from Patagonia for their functional thermal collection, which is supplemented with around 30 percent synthetic fibers (various blends with polyamide, polyester and elastane depending on the area of use). Unlike other merino products, Woolpower is washable at 60 degrees and has proven to be extremely robust in hard everyday outdoor use. All items are manufactured in Jämtland. Different warmth classes are used, which are based on the weight per square meter of the knit and are usually indicated in the model name. 200 (stands for 200g/sqm) is the 'light' fabric at Woolpower (elsewhere it is already the middle class). 400 is intended for pure winter use. And the super-warm Wildlife Socks 600 can either be worn at winter camp - or as slippers.

The company has always had very high quality standards. Regular spot checks are carried out to ensure that the correct masses are maintained in accordance with the applicable standards. Production in Östersund is certified in accordance with ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 9001 (quality management). In addition, each item of clothing bears the name of the seamstress, as the finished punched parts are sewn together to form the garment by the same seamstress. The seamstress checks and is responsible for 'her' garment, which she documents at the end with her name label. Around 70% of sales are for export - to around 30 countries around the world. Customers include athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, military and police organizations in many countries, people who spend a lot of time outdoors for work and many others who don't like to be cold. Woolpower AB is part of the 'Gränsfors Bruks Moderbolag' group of companies, a family business with various smaller production companies. Among other things, it manufactures crowbars, axes and protective clothing for forestry workers. All Woolpower products - from the yarn to the finished garment - are manufactured by Woolpower AB in Östersund, northern Sweden, and have been since the start of production in 1972.
