Second-hand for outdoor equipment: new online platform from Transa

Anyone who spends as much time outdoors as Transa’s employees and customers can see with their own eyes how the climate crisis is changing the world. To ensure that resources are used as sustainably as possible, Transa aims to become a circular company. To achieve this ambitious goal, we expanded our range of repair and maintenance services in 2023. Now we want to give our customers an even bigger role.

So in spring 2024, Transa’s second-hand platform is going online. And it’s easy to get involved and pass on your used outdoor clothes and equipment to other outdoor and travel fans.

Repair and reuse help lengthen product life which is a better use of our resources – in line with Transa’s philosophy of ‘the right product for as long as possible’.

If everyone in Switzerland wore their clothes for three years longer, we could save 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, according to a study by Infra Suisse. For comparison: the Federal Office for the Environment says each person in Switzerland generates around 12 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

So how long you use a product greatly influences its impact on the environment. The longer we use products, the better it is for the environment.

But you benefit not only from a sustainable purchase, but also from a lower price than you would pay for a new product.

All the gear you need for your outdoor adventures. So not just products like camping stoves or bicycle bags but also used hiking trousers and sunglasses. And it doesn’t have to be equipment and clothes that you bought from Transa – brands that we do not carry are also welcome. Essentially, if your product fits into one of the categories on the platform, you can post it online and sell it. However, personal safety equipment is specifically excluded – that includes climbing ropes, carabiners, helmets and avalanche equipment.

Show off your used clothes or gear for outdoor activities to the best advantage and take some photos from every angle. Close-ups of traces of use give potential buyers a good impression of the product. Then go to transa.ch/secondhand and click on ‘Sell’. A form will guide you step by step through the process.

When you post a product online with your smartphone, you can select the images directly from your picture app. If you’re using a laptop or computer, you can easily upload the pictures using a QR code.

As for the price: you set the selling price yourself. It is worth also setting a minimum price. The platform will gradually lower the price over the following 21 days – until it hopefully finds a buyer. However, the price displayed is fixed, products cannot be auctioned.

On transa.ch/secondhand you can find all the products that outdoor enthusiasts are offering for sale online. The products are divided into categories, just like they are in the online shop. The sellers have set fixed prices for the products, so you don’t have to bid on them in an auction.

To purchase, you will need to register; this protects both the seller and the buyer. The product can be delivered by mail or you can pick it up directly if this is entered as an option.

Transa.ch/secondhand is a unique second-hand platform with a focus on outdoor and travel equipment. Adventure fans sell their clothes and equipment online to like-minded people.

The platform is easy to use and products are sold at a fixed price. And as a buyer or seller you also benefit from buyer protection. This means, for example, that the money is deposited securely and only transferred upon confirmed receipt of the product. You can also use your account to lodge a report if the product does not match the description.
