Right in the transition period, cyclists often stand in front of their wardrobe and ponder: What should I wear today? Is the short-sleeved jersey enough or should I go for the long-sleeved jersey? Or do I even need a jackets? And which trousers should I wear today, the long winter tights or the short bib? Arm warmers and leg warmers can be a real boon, especially in spring and autumn. Especially when the mornings and evenings are already quite cool, but the days are sometimes still really warm.
You go on a tour in the morning and it's still cold. As the day progresses, however, the sun comes out and with it the rising temperatures and you quickly realise that the long-sleeved jersey was simply the wrong choice. It's great that there are arm warmers and leg warmers for such temperature contrasts, which can be wonderfully combined with the short jersey and bike shorts.
If the air is still cool in the morning, slip into your short-sleeved jersey and the bike shorts, arm warmers and leg warmers - that's it. If the temperature rises during your bike tour and the sun is blazing down from the sky, then it's time to take off your arm warmers and leg warmers. This way, you can continue pedalling happily, free from unnecessary baggage.
You can recognise good arm warmers and leg warmers by the following features:
Every road cyclist and mountain biker owns arm warmers. The tight-fitting and elasticated jersey extension compensates for rapid temperature changes on the go in no time at all. They are usually very light and can be stowed away in the back pocket of your jersey or backpack in no time at all. They are usually more elasticated than the jersey, but just as breathable. They are usually made like a tube or consist of several segments. The segment version has the advantage that they are slightly pre-shaped at the elbow joint and therefore the arm warmers fit even better and more comfortably.
Leg warmers turn short tights or mountain bike shorts into long bike trousers in no time at all. Just like the arm warmers, the leg warmers are super elastic, breathable, light, compact to stow away and even more comfortable in the segment version.
Many sporty riders find leg warmers too much of a good thing, even in the transition period. Knee warmers or knee warmers, the slightly shorter version of leg warmers, are perfectly adequate for them. They do not cover the entire leg, but only the knee joint, which is sensitive to the cold.
