A long-sleeve shirt, also known as a longsleeve, is a very good choice for many sports - as a first layer in winter or worn solo in the transition period. However, it doesn't necessarily have to be cold to be well clothed in a long sleeve shirt. Shirts with sunshade also protect you in strong sunlight.

Long-sleeve shirts are popular at any time of year and for any sport. They are indispensable for hiking, climbing, bouldering, biking or trekking. They offer more protection, but also more warmth than short-sleeved t-shirts. In contrast to t-shirts, a typical long sleeve shirt naturally has long sleeves. Depending on the activity and requirements, it can be equipped with different necklines.

• Crew neck longsleeve - round, high round neckline, the typical baselayer model
• V-neck - V-shaped neckline, does not show through the shirt worn over it
• Polo shirt - with a short button placket and small collar
• Biker shirts - the long sleeves serve as a sunshade, the extended back protects the kidneys

The right material for every adventure

• Single jersey made from pure cotton - ideal for recreation, often in organic cotton
• Silk jersey - the fine shirt for everyday wear, silk is too sensitive for outdoor use
• Single jersey with elastane - cotton and elastane form a perfect unit and follow your every move
• Synthetic fibre, breathable - absorbs moisture and immediately wicks it away to evaporate
• Merino wool - moisture-regulating and odour-inhibiting, warms even when damp

Thermal shirts make your outdoor life lighter

It's all about the combination! Depending on which fibres are combined, your new longsleeve can give you great support. Cotton is absorbent but dries slowly. Soft merino wool is great, often combined with the benefits of other fibres that offer breathability, elasticity and quick drying. A different material is required for stop-and-go sports than for sweat-inducing sports. Polyester usually offers the greatest advantages here, often purposefully combined with another fibre.

Tight or casual? A question of activity

In your recreation, you will prefer things to be comfortable and casual. In this case, your long sleeve should be cut a little wider, preferably oversized. However, it's a completely different story if the shirt is the base layer of your onion look. Any excess fabric would be distracting here. The fit must be close to the body for a baselayer. A good long sleeve shirt made from functional material can certainly replace thermal underwear. However, it must really lie close to the skin so that the body moisture that evaporates can be reliably wicked away.

There are special, fitted cuts for women, the shoulders are naturally cut a little narrower and the long sleeves are not quite as long as for men.
