Warm winter trousers: perfect for cold outdoor days

Don't let sub-zero temperatures stop you from going on your planned outdoor tour? You don't need to, because with the right clothing you'll be optimally protected whatever the temperature. In addition to jackets, knit caps and scarves, you should also wear warm winter trousers in winter, i.e. outdoor trousers made especially for winter from extra heat-insulating materials.

With winter models such as ski trousers, down trousers, softshell trousers, thermal trousers or snow trousers, it is important that they are not only warm, but also light, breathable and functional. This is the only way they can prove practical on your tours.

Warm trousers: well insulated, comfortable and functional

Warm winter trousers will get you through the day outdoors even at very low temperatures. They should fulfil the following features:

  • They are very warm, but still pleasantly light.
  • The material (e.g. polyamide, softshell) is very robust, tear-resistant and can withstand any outdoor activity. It is also moisture-regulating and fast-drying. The inside is pleasantly soft and ensures a good wearing comfort.
  • It is also breathable, wind and water-repellent or even windproof and waterproof, so that you don't sweat so quickly and moisture can't penetrate even in wet, snowy and icy conditions.
  • Some models for extra-cold conditions are filled with light goose down to provide maximum warmth.
  • Thanks to the elasticated or individually adjustable waistband, winter trousers fit perfectly and offer you maximum freedom of movement for any activity. Some trousers have a high stretch content (e.g. leggings), which ensures a close fit and thus insulates even more heat.
  • Depending on the model, you can wear them under winter trousers, as an overcoat or on their own. Depending on the outside temperature and activity, you can decide how thick the insulating layer on the legs should be.
  • A smooth-running front zip with press stud fastening makes it easy to put on and take off.
  • You can also store selected models in a practical packsack, which you can then stow in your backpack to save space.
  • Bags offer you storage space for important outdoor accessories. Water-repellent or even waterproof zips on the bags ensure that no moisture can get in.
  • Reinforcements on the seat and knees further extend service life. Thanks to the soft padding on the knees, you can also set up your tent and perform other activities while kneeling even more comfortably.
  • Practical belt loops allow you to attach various outdoor devices (e.g. GPS transmitter) or a key ring.

The right trousers for every winter activity

Depending on the activity for which your winter trousers are intended, the different trousers are equipped with special details. For example, tour or ski trousers are usually even more robust than other winter trousers. Their material should be waterproof and as light as possible. Ventilation zips would also be an advantage. And they should also be specially reinforced at the bottom so that sharp ski edges and the like cannot cause any major damage.
