Trekking shoe for the golden mean: medium-difficulty and medium-length tours.
With the Alterra GTX W's from Aku, you don't always have to walk in the middle of the trail, yet the shoe feels most comfortable on medium-difficulty, medium-length tours in mixed terrain. The Alterra is trimmed for comfort with a gusset-free tongue made of elastic material and an elastic collar. The shoe is perfectly adapted to the female foot. It has a more pronounced arch to provide more support and stability and prevent forward slippage. The narrower heel increases lateral stability and sensitivity, prevents heel chafing and thus the risk of blisters. The narrower forefoot volume prevents the toes from being pressed against the toe of the shoe and the narrower instep volume ensures adaptation to the female anatomy of the foot. The wider shape of the folded tongue makes it easier for the foot to get into the shoe. In addition, the cuffs are flared at the top to reduce voltage on the calf. In combination with the Internal Midsole System (IMS3), the exoskeleton framework, in which the midsole consists of an outer skeleton made of polyurethane and is raised at the rear to surround and protect the heel, ensures optimum support and stability when walking. The asymmetrical structure, with a wider inner part and a polyurethane elevation, provides support to the midfoot while preventing overload and thus pronation. Integrated into the shoe is the Elica system, which replicates the shape of the sole of the foot, supports the normal inclination of the heel and forefoot and thus reduces impact and stress for greater comfort. To protect against dust, stones and rain from above, the Alterra GTX has a gaiter-like wrap and a Gore-Tex lining to protect against water from below and the sides.
