Very secure, ISO certified pin binding, super stable and easy to handle.
The ST Rotation from Dynafit is a TÜF ISO certified pin binding type. This binding offers all the advantages of a pin binding in terms of weight and walking comfort, but makes hardly any compromises when it comes to safety. It is not easy to certify a pin binding type according to the ISO 13992 standard.
One necessary characteristic is elasticity. This means that the binding type must be able to absorb impacts before it releases or re-centers the shoe. To make this distinction, i.e. for the binding to "know" whether it is a fall or an impact, the shoe must be able to travel a certain distance in the binding before it releases.
Dynafit achieves this elasticity via the "Rotation Toe Piece", among other things. This helps to solve a major problem with all pin binding types: False releases. The days of reflexively locking the binding type at the summit are definitely over with the ST Rotation.
The rotating toe piece relieves the stress on the pins, which were always close to snapping open when the going got a little rough. And that's no triviality when you consider that there are always passages on ski touring where losing a ski can have serious consequences.
But of course, the rotating toe piece is not all this binding type has to offer. A functioning length adjustment contributes just as much to safety as the cleverly designed rear binding head guarantees great stability and skiing performance. Even if the binding type "only" goes up to a value-z binding of 10, it can absorb a lot of forces thanks to its design.
Of course, so many features are reflected in the weight. At 599 grams, however, it is still within the frame and still almost half the weight of a frame binding that offers hardly any more functions.
The Rotation ST is therefore a thoroughly successful binding type for all those who value safety and are willing to put up with a few extra grams.
