The ski bindings don't compromise on performance, safety and handling. The Shift should be seen as an alpine binding that offers ski touring as an option.
In the skiing mode setting, it is almost indistinguishable from an alpine binding when skiing, making it super easy to use. To switch to tour mode, you fold down a short pin at the front, whereupon the jaws turn outwards and two pins appear. The stopper at the back is locked in place via a bracket that you fold down, very similar to the lighter MTN binding type.
At the summit, you flip the pin back up, open the stopper and you're back in an alpine binding.
Another very cool feature is that the binding type fits almost all boot types thanks to MNC (Multi Norm Compatibility). So you can ski in the Shift with a pure alpine boot, or with hybrid boots with WTR or GripWalk soles, but also with classic touring boots, as long as they still have a certified "beak" (ISO 9523) at the front and back.
If you want to run with the Shift, you will of course need inserts in your shoes. But with the Shift, you can ski on the slope one day with an alpine boot and go on a tour the next with a completely different boot. The Shift can be easily adjusted using the height-adjustable slider plate.
So if you usually take the lift for the vertical meters and don't want to compromise on your skiing but still want to make ascents, then the Shift is pretty much the perfect binding type.
